I love my job. I am very lucky to be here at Burns Park. The students give me energy! Teaching is a dream job for me. I am grateful for this.
In 2013 I got married to a wonderful guy. Here we are at our outdoor wedding, right before the hail and horizontal rain/monsoon hit.
Bruce is my husband, and he is a software tester and musician.

I also got a bonus!! Here are my step children - Caden and Ryan. Caden lives in Madison Wisconsin working for Epic Health, and Ryan works at Trader Joe's and is aiming to be an EMT and Firefighter. They are sweet kids. I met them when they were 5 and 6. Now we are empty nesters!

Speaking of kids, My sister Diane has a daughter named Olivia, and Michael is my sister Joyce's son. I am very lucky to have my class during the day, and these sweet kids in my off hours.

Here is my family. They are very important to me. My mom is next to me. She is a former 3rd grade teacher!
My sister Joyce owns a business selling unique wedding, bar mitzvah, and party favors. She is a single mom with a special needs adopted son (above).
My sister Diane is the world's best family therapist here in AA, and lives with her wife and daughter on the north side of town. My dad passed away in 2011.

In the summer, I got in better shape, and grew giant veggies in my garden using compost from food scraps!
I love my "lost boys" garden, where people just gave me the plants that they thinned out of their own garden and were going to throw away.

I spent part of my summer working on commission and charity pieces doing mosaic stained glass. I have been creating stained glass for years, and started in galleries and gift shops in 2013. My favorite thing is to make a piece specifically for a gift or someone's house.

I got to do the art in my bathroom!!

I graduated from the University of Michigan in 1989 and 1990 with undergraduate degrees in English and Education, respectively. My Education majors were in language arts and math. I graduated from Eastern Michigan University in 1997 with a masters in science, with concentrations in physics and earth science. Since then I have attended many universities, taking classes in technology, education, health, CPR, behavior management, schoology and social and emotional health.
Before teaching in Ann Arbor, I taught summer school to 6th and 8th graders in the Detroit area. I was a student teacher at Burns Park and my first job here was teaching computers. Shortly after, I taught 7th grade at Slauson Middle School. I was then recruited back to Burns Park and have been here ever since. I love all the grades but have most experience with teaching 3rd - 5th.

I like to work for charities as well. This is a photo of me working to gut houses for Katrina victims. I have done lots of blood drives with my classes.
One of my biggest hobbies is working out and playing sports. I run, lift, swim, and play volleyball, pickleball, and occasionally tennis. When I tell the students I am intimidating, somehow they just giggle. But I wouldn't mess with me :-).

You can find me here playing volleyball at Silver Lake every Wednesday from April through October. This year, I took a break for safety. I could be found daily on the border to border trail near my house.
I love playing Pickleball as well. No, you don't play with a pickle. It is like a smaller version of tennis, with a bit of ping pong thrown in. This was put on hold too by the pandemic, but I have been playing some outside.
Are you a Wait Wait Don't Tell Me fan like me? If so, you'll appreciate the prize I got. Click below. I'll tell you the story sometime :).
WE LOVE OUR CLASS!
